Libraries in the Digital Age
As more and more advanced technology comes out, libraries must adapt. The American Library Association or ALA, launched a campaign about libraries and how they are important, even with all of the new technology. The campaign was called “Libraries Transform”. The purpose was to change the public’s view of libraries being outdated. They wanted to shift the view from what libraries have to “what they do for and with the people” (pg. 28). This campaign is incredibly important because it showcases how libraries have changed along with new technology but also how libraries have always had the sole purpose to serve their communities. As new technology comes into play, libraries are always at the forefront of that, staff learning how to use new software and programs, creating new and engaging services and programming to better serve the community. It’s exciting to think of what the future holds for libraries with all of the new advancements and what they will do to keep their communities engaged.
